Why choose PVC?

PVC remains the most chosen material for window replacement in Belgium and that’s no coincidence. In practice, it offers:

  • Excellent insulation: thanks to multi-chamber profiles (up to 7 chambers depending on the range), PVC ranks among the best-insulating materials on the market, both thermally and acoustically.
  • Virtually no maintenance: no paint, no varnish: a simple wash with soapy water is enough to keep your PVC frames looking flawless.
  • Outstanding value for money: at equivalent performance, PVC is generally the most affordable of the 3 materials, making it a safe choice for most residential projects.
  • Great flexibility: a wide range of colours and finishes, including wood-effect options, suited to both renovation and new-build projects.
  • Long-lasting durability: a properly installed PVC frame lasts several decades without losing its insulating or aesthetic qualities.

Insulation & thermal performance

PVC insulates naturally well thanks to its structure: its profiles are made up of several air chambers that slow down heat transfer, without needing a thermal break — unlike aluminium.

At Abihome, the level of insulation depends on the profile chosen: the more chambers and seals a profile has, the better its thermal and acoustic performance. Our MD (88) range, with 7 chambers and 3 seals, offers the highest insulation in our PVC range (Uw: 1.0), while the 76 MD (Uw: 1.1) and the AD (Uw: 1.2) cover most renovation projects with very good performance.

Maintenance of PVC frames

PVC is never painted or varnished, and it doesn’t rust: a wash with soapy water, once or twice a year, is enough to keep your PVC frames in excellent condition throughout their lifespan. Along with aluminium, it’s one of the lowest-maintenance materials we offer.

What types of PVC frames are available?

4 types of PVC frames make up the range

  • Kömmerling 76 MD

    6 chambers, 3 seals. The 76 MD builds on the AD profile's performance with a central seal, for even better thermal and acoustic insulation. Uw: 1.1.

  • Kömmerling MD (88)

    7 chambers, 3 seals. The MD (88) stands out for its exceptional insulation — the profile to choose for the most demanding energy-performance projects. Uw: 1.0.

  • Kömmerling AD

    5 chambers, 2 seals. Slim profiles, large glazed surfaces: the AD maximises natural light without compromising on insulation, for a resolutely modern design. Uw: 1.2.
