Wood is a natural, renewable material that brings a character few other materials can match. In practice, for you:

Insulation and thermal performance

Wood is a natural insulator: its cellular structure limits heat conduction, without needing any additional technical barrier, unlike aluminium, which needs a thermal break to reach a comparable level of insulation.

At Abihome, the level of insulation depends first and foremost on the profile’s thickness. Our Comfort 68mm range offers good thermal and acoustic insulation, suited to most renovation projects (Uw: 1.3). Our Excellence 88mm range, with a reinforced profile, aims for superior insulation, suited to the most demanding projects, including low-energy constructions (Uw: 0.9). Paired with high-performance double or triple glazing, a wooden frame ranks among the most insulating solutions on the market.

Maintenance of wooden frames

Wood is a living material that requires regular but reasonable maintenance: repainting or restaining every 5 to 10 years, depending on exposure, is enough to preserve the look and durability of your frames. In exchange for this maintenance, wood offers its natural charm and a lifespan that can exceed 30 to 50 years. Our teams advise you on the right maintenance habits when your frames are installed.

It’s the material that requires the most attention among the three we offer, in exchange for a character that neither PVC nor aluminium can truly match.

Which wood species for your wooden frames?

Abihome works with 4 wood species for its wooden frames: Meranti, oak, Afzelia and larch. Each with its own qualities. The choice of species affects the look, natural moisture resistance, maintenance frequency and budget.

Meranti An exotic wood from Southeast Asia with a fine grain, in tones ranging from pink to reddish-brown. Stable and durable with the right finish, it offers excellent value for money.

Oak An iconic European wood, strong and highly durable. Its light brown to golden tone suits both classic renovations and recent builds.

Afzelia A high-end African exotic wood with exceptional durability, in tones from ochre to reddish-brown. Very stable, it requires little maintenance.

Larch The only softwood in the selection, robust with reddish-brown hues. It weathers naturally over time and holds up well outdoors when treated.

What budget should you plan for?

Species, dimensions, profile thickness (68 or 88mm), glazing: every project has its own budget. Rather than a generic price range, we’d rather give you a fair price, tailored to your project.
